The warmest mean for August in Durham is still from 1975, the year prior to the famous hot summer of 1976. The first half of that one was exceptionally hot.

The lowest mean was from August 1912, which was pretty abominable after the hot weather a year earlier. The whole summer of 1912 was rubbish.

The highest temperature in August is from the day that used to hold the record for the UK, in 1990.

The coldest temperature was just a fraction above freezing, way back in 1864 (who remembers that?)

The wettest August was back in the 50s, when Rock n Roll was becoming the thing. About 7″ (old money) cam down in that soggy session.

Amazingly, the driest August was also in the 1950’s, just 3 years later in 1959. You probably couldn’t have floated a rubber duck in that one.
