This Day in History: 1903-10-31

: Flooding.

This is the wettest calendar month in three centuries of rainfall records, with rainfall averaged geographically across England and Wales of 218mm. Rain fell daily in many parts of the country, and following the wet summer, flooding was widespread and prolonged. In many regions the grain harvest was not completed, and root vegetables were left to rot. Over 100 sq km of land lay underwater at the month’s end.
