This Day in History: 1901-02-04

: 4th February. Heavy Snow.

Snow fell heavily across much of England and Wales on the 4th, accompanied by a strong North East wind, dislocating transport for several days. In Liverpool, snapped telephone wires came into contact with trolleybus power lines during the evening, electrocuting several people; two died and 15 were injured. The snow was deepest in upland parts of the Thames basin, with 22cm at Highmoor in the Oxfordshire Chilterns.
