July 2024 at Durham – Another month of two halves

The topsy-turvy Summer 2024 weather continued into July. The last few days of June redeemed the month, but cooler weather returned and it continued into the first half of July.

The first half of the month was wet, especially the 9th to 16th, when 50.8mm of the monthly total fell (67.9mm). The wettest day was the 9th (13.7mm), but the 14th was nearly as wet (12.6mm) and the 3rd, 10th and 16th also had substantial totals.

The 20 degC mark was only reached on two days up to the 14th; the 5th and the 8th.

In mid-month the weather flipped again to warm and dry. The 20 degC mark was then reached every day for the last 16 days, with a top temperature of 28.2 degC on the 19th (the second anniversary of the hot July 19th of 2022). 25 degC was reached on 5 of those days.

There was only 1.9mm of rain in the period from the 17th July to the end of the month.
